Bat Tests Positive For Rabies On Martha's Vineyard

A bat has tested positive for rabies on Martha's Vineyard.

The dead bat was brought into a Tisbury home by the resident's cat in mid-July and tests determined the bat had rabies.

The cat that brought in the bat and two other cats in the home were quarantined for 45-days and they are all doing fine.

The resident took precautionary doses of the rabies vaccine.

This is the first time a rabid bat has been confirmed on the island since 2019.
