Several Cape and South Shore communities will consider a ballot question regarding the Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station.
Voters in all Cape locales, save Barnstable will ask voters to call on the Commonwealth to take action to stop Holtec International from evaporating industrial wastewater from the decommissioned plant.
The water in question contains contaminants, including radioactive materials which cannot be completely filtered out, in violation of the Ocean Sanctuaries Act. Plymouth and Scituate will also consider a form of the question.
Holtec has been blocked from releasing the water into Cape Cod Bay.
In a statement, Holtec accused activists of fearmongering, and pointed to a DEP letter from last year that says the non-radioactive pollutants in the water were within safe limits.
