Investigators in Sandwich believe Tuesday's early morning fire at the historic Daniel Webster Inn began outside of the back door.
The Fire Department and State Police assigned to the Fire Marshal's Office say smoking materials and an extension cord were found at that location, but the exact cause may remain undetermined because those factors could not be ruled out as factors in the blaze.
The front desk clerk at the 300-year-old building saw the fire on a security camera and called 911.
One person was taken to a hospital for smoke inhalation.
