National Guard: Still Deeply Committed To Machine Gun Range Project

The Massachusetts National Guard says it still wants to move forward with a plan to build a machine gun range at Joint Base Cape Cod.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency released a draft opinion last month which determined the machine gun range may contaminate the sole-source Cape Cod Aquifer, creating a significant public health hazard.

The Enterprise reports the Mass National Guard has stated that it remains deeply committed to upholding environmental protections while serving complex training needs and enhancing soldier readiness.

Public comment on the EPA draft will be accepted through June 26th.

A hearing is scheduled for May 24th at the Center for Active Living on Quaker Meetinghouse Road in Sandwich.
