The Sandwich Fire Department was called out to the Canal Generating Plant on Tuesday after receiving calls from concerned neighbors.
Officials say a large release of steam was part of a standard operating procedure after a turbine had trouble starting, according to a report from the Enterprise.
Some residents reported falling debris which the fire department said was ice from the steam hitting the cold air.
