COMM Firefighters Honored

The Centerville-Osterville-Marstons Mills fire department was well represented Tuesday when Governor Charlie Baker was handing out Firefighter of the Year awards in Worcester.

28 members of the COMM fire department were given the Citation for Meritorious Conduct award and three received Medal of Valor awards for heroism.

The awards centered around two events; the rescue of a woman who fell through thin ice at Pattys Pond in January and the fatal shooting of Yarmouth K9 Sgt. Sean Gannon in April.

In comments at the event at Mechanics Hall, COMM Fire Chief Michael Winn said he is proud of everyone in his department, calling the response to the two incidents among the most heroic acts he has witnessed in his near three decades as a firefighter in Massachusetts.
