Paddleboarders Rescued Off Sunken Meadow Beach

Eastham firefighters along with the Wellfleet Harbormaster came to the rescue of two paddleboarders who were taken by surprise by Monday’s strong winds and couldn’t make their way back to shore.

The rescuers were alerted to the incident just before noon on Monday, responding to the Bay off Sunken Meadow Beach. The paddleboarders had been drifting westward for about two hours. They were fortunate that someone on the beach saw their frantic waving and called 9-1-1.

The two were brought to Rock Harbor for evaluation and were treated for mild hypothermia by EMTs. Both declined a trip to the hospital.
