Yarmouth Man Faces Burglary, Strangulation Charges

A Yarmouth man faces arraignment Monday in Barnstable District Court following his arrest over the weekend on burglary charges.

Early Sunday morning, around 2:30 a.m., Barnstable Police were called to a group home at 22 Main St. in Hyannis after a male suspect entered the residence and allegedly assaulted an occupant.

Officers spoke with a 52-year old female victim who told them she was asleep in her third floor bedroom when a male entered the room and covered her mouth and nose with his hand. The woman was able to scream causing the man to run from the bedroom and go to the first floor section of the house which has no exit.

A search by the officers located Cristian Lema, 29, hiding in a bath tub. He was placed under arrest and taken to Barnstable PD Headquarters where he was booked for Armed Burglary-Assault on an Occupant, and Strangulation or Suffocation. Lema was later bailed on $500 cash.
