Keating Bill to Protect Civilians Deployed by DOD

9th District Congressman Bill Keating on Thursday introduced legislation to assist civilians deployed by the Department of Defense.

HR 5851, the Deployed Civilian Parity Act, provides civilians serving in combat zones around the world the ability to terminate leasing contracts for their service period in the same manner that military personnel are currently permitted.

Keating says every year the D-O-D deploys thousands of government civilians to combat zones across the globe to provide critical support to military operations.

When military personnel deploy, they receive orders allowing them to break leasing contracts for homes, vehicles, and telephone services, thus removing a financial burden for services they will not need. Under current law, civilian employees who deploy cannot use their orders in the same manner. Keating says the bill remedies a long-time inconsistency.
