Eversource Cleared of EDF Accusation

A Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) staff inquiry has revealed no evidence of anti-competitive withholding of natural gas pipeline capacity on Algonquin Gas Transmission by New England shippers, which includes Eversource.

The inquiry arose out of allegations made by the Environmental Defense Fund in an August 2017 white paper, asserting the practice had taken place to drive up prices in the region.

In a news release, Eversource said a new analysis conducted by Levitan & Associates, a national energy market expert, deemed the EDF claim false, stating the EDF failed to account for the fact that regulated gas uitilities have an obligation to serve their customers with the highest level of reliability, under a range of operating conditions.
