Winter's Final Roar?

If this is the last gasp of Winter, 2017, it is going to be a doozy for a significant portion of Massachusetts.

The National Weather Service says a powerful Nor’Easter is expected to bring blizzard conditions to much of the region although it appears Cape Cod and the Islands will be spared in terms of snowfall amounts. However, high winds and high tides could be problematic.

A winter storm watch goes into effect for the Cape and Martha’s Vineyard at 5 a.m. Tuesday and lasts until 2 a.m. on Wednesday. Snow develops between 5-and-7 a.m. Tuesday morning and will be heavy at times before changing to rain late Tuesday morning or early afternoon. Expected accumulation on the Cape is 4-to-8”.

Power outages are possible from the combination of strong winds and the weight of the snow, especially if more than 6 inches of snow falls.

The National Weather Service has also issued a High Wind Watch and a Coastal Flood Watch for the Cape.
