Yarmouth residents turned in more than 300-pounds of medications during Saturday's Prescription Drug Take Back Day.
The Yarmouth Police Department and U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration hosted the event as part of a nationwide effort to get rid of unused and unwanted drugs.
Police say in addition to keeping the drugs off the streets, improperly disposing of pharmaceuticals poses risks to the environment and public health because chemicals could enter Cape Cod's water supply and ecosystem if they are flushed.
