Three public meetings are happening this week to discuss the big rate hikes the Steamship Authority is considering.
The ferry service is being forced to react to its rapidly rising expenses so it doesn't have to take on debt to pay its bills.
Some of the changes include doubling the annual parking fee for lots in Hyannis and Falmouth to 200-bucks and major increases to standard fare vehicle rates on both the Vineyard and Nantucket routes.
Today's meeting happens at the public safety facility on Nantucket at 3:45. Meetings on the Vineyard and in Falmouth happen tomorrow and Thursday evenings.
