League of Women Voters of the Cape Cod Area Urges No Vote On Question 6

The League of Women Voters of the Cape Cod Area is urging residents to vote no on Question 6.

If passed, the ballot question would give the Barnstable County Assembly of Delegates more power over financial decisions.

The Barnstable County Board of Regional Commissioners voted earlier this month to oppose Question 6 saying in part, it would allow the Assembly increases spending power for "pet projects" pay raises and hiring more staff.

In addition, they say it bypasses the Charter Review procedure, which is designed to be open, inclusive, and transparent.

In a statement, the League of Women Voters says the Charter review process allows for more open and inclusive involvement of the community in a "thoughtful study of the existing charter and consideration of any needed changes, assisted by legal and expert consultations."
