Provincetown officials are asking the public to stop feeding the birds, especially in the Lopes Square area.
Town leaders say the person leaving bird seed around town may think they're helping to feed the birds, but they know how to find their own food and the seeds will ultimately attract rats.
Anyone who notices a person feeding the birds should call the DPW so staffers can speak to the person and explain why it's not a good idea and clean it up.
