An autopsy will determine if an elderly man pulled from the surf on Nantucket died from drowning or a medical emergency.
Bystanders spotted the guy unresponsive in the waters off Miacomet Beach Monday afternoon and pulled him to shore where lifeguards performed CPR before an ambulance took him away.
The 80-year-old later died at a hospital.
Lifeguards had to help nine swimmers Monday who got caught in rip currents or slammed by big waves on the island's south shore.
