State Representative Steve Xiarhos is sounding off on Saturday's attempted assassination of former President Trump.
The East Sandwich Republican issued a statement saying he was shocked and saddened by the incident, but is thankful Trump wasn't badly hurt.
"I join others to pray for the family of the innocent bystander who was killed and for the recovery of others who were injured. As a former police officer, I strongly and emphatically condemn violence of any kind by anyone, and especially violence by those who harbor hateful beliefs. There is no place for such actions in our nation, ever. Our republic prides itself on peaceful and respectful political discourse for the common good, even in the case of passionate differences of opinion. I pray our country will unite and seek common ground peacefully in the wake of this tragedy," Xiarhos said.
C-and-I Democratic State Senator Julian Cyr echoed those sentiments.
