Barnstable County officials are urging Cape residents and visitors to use caution when out in the heat this week.
The heat index for the Cape and areas along the immediate coast will be less severe than areas off Cape, but precautions are still recommended especially for the very old and the very young.
During the extreme heat, stay in an air-conditioned location as much as possible, drink plenty of fluids and wear loose, lightweight, light-colored clothing.
Residents should check on their neighbors and remember that children and pets are never to be left in vehicles.
