Meetings are now underway regarding a potential offshore wind farm east of Cape Cod.
Federal officials have proposed eight new areas for lease, totaling nearly a million acres that could generate enough power for more than five-million homes.
Officials say the site closest to the Cape would be about 25-miles, east of Eastham.
The Gulf of Maine Intergovernmental Renewable Energy Task Force will meet Friday in Plymouth.
