Although there was quite a bit of support for lifting the ban on recreational marijuana dispensaries, residents in Dennis fell short on approving the petition.
The 130 to 98 vote did not meet the two-thirds majority required to change a zoning bylaw and allow the shops to set up by permit in certain districts.
Supporters of lifting the ban say people are coming around and it's just a matter of time.
