Mooring License In Dispute In Harwich

A dispute over the issuance of a mooring license agent could delay boat owners from docking in areas of Harwich.

Lower Cape Marine Services was awarded a three-year license to service the mooring fields of Round Cove, Pleasant Bay, and Herring River.

The company was the only agency to file by the deadline of November 2nd, and the Select Board made the award.

Chip Niehoff of AGL Mooring did not apply until six days after the deadline, but is protesting the Lower Cape Marine's award, and is considering a legal challenge.

Niehoff claims a lack of clarity on the deadline, including no due date, and believes he was given the wrong filing date.

The town affirmed it would stand behind their decision to grant AGL the license in a March meeting.
