Officials are continuing their warning about the return of endangered North Atlantic right whales to the waters off Cape Cod and the Islands.
Cape Cod Bay is the annual migration stop for the whales to feed this time of year.
The Center for Coastal Studies reported nearly 50 right whales in the bay at this time.
An aerial survey team recently detected as many as 31 right whales in the shipping lanes off Nantucket and the Cape.
Mariners of both commercial and pleasure craft are urged to reduce speeds and keep an eye out, as boat strikes and entanglement in fishing gear are the top causes of death and injury to the species.
