Plans are being put into motion to bring a new firehouse to Barnstable.
A department committee determined the current building on Main Street isn't big enough to house all the vehicles and equipment anymore, so a new fire station is being recommended.
The panel is suggesting that the Barnstable Water Department building on Phinney's Lane be torn down to make way for a state-of-the-art firehouse than can handle further expansion.
Once it's built and the fire department moves in, the old station would be turned into town offices.
The proposal has a lot of hurdles to clear before any changes take place, though.
