Endangered North Atlantic right whales have returned to Cape Cod Bay.
Massachusetts Environmental Police confirmed sighting a pod of the species in the bay; patrol vessels will track the whales to ensure their safety.
This is the second sighting of the season; right whales travel to the Cape and Islands to feed and raise their young.
The concern for their survival surrounds figures which show approximately 350 right whales remain, and about one-fifth of these are females that are capable of giving birth.
