The operators of the Vineyard Wind project are expected to make a significant announcement.
A spokesperson for Avangrid, one of the two parent companies of the project recently said the commissioning process for the first series of five turbines is ongoing.
Eight of the envisioned 62 turbines have been completed.
The wind farm began transmitting electricity to the grid on January 2nd, and intermittent power has been provided since then.
The expected announcement comes as the U.S. Department of Energy unveiled plans for a new academic center on offshore wind which will be led by UMass-Amherst.
