A New Straw Being Tested On Cape

The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution is studying a prototype drinking straw, which will hopefully cut down on plastic usage and pollution.

The straw uses bioplastic which has wood pulp as its base, and breaks down quickly, based on water samples taken from Martha's Vineyard Sound.

The market for straws is large: the 2023 global value for 2023 is estimated at 19-point-2-billion dollars.

Some experts are concerned with the number of straws that are discarded are detrimental to the environment.
