An electric flying boat that could shorten travel times is set to begin testing off Rhode Island.
The Seaglider is the brainchild of Regent Craft, based in North Kingstown.
The vehicle is part boat, part aircraft and uses an air cushion to travel over water.
The builders say the Seaglider would carry up to 12 passengers and 35-hundred pounds of payload, and travel at a maximum speed of 180 miles per hour.
This could help reduce coastal traffic and emissions off the New England shores.
Testing of a prototype is scheduled for Narragansett Bay this summer.
