Bird Flu Found In Barnstable County

State health officials are issuing a public warning, following the positive test of a domesticated flock for a contagious strain of bird flu.

The Department of Agricultural Resources' Division of Animal Health announced a non-commercial, mixed species flock in Barnstable County recently tested for Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza.

The birds were euthanized. MDAR officials say bird owners should take precautions to keep their flocks separate from wild birds, including feathers and droppings, and report any sick, dead, or dying domestic birds to the agency.
