Farmers, Chilmark Consider Zoning Changes

Farmers in the Chilmark area engaged with Chilmark's Planning Board this week over proposed amendments to zoning bylaws.

The proposals are to clarify what on-site activities are permitted.

Areas zoned agricultural-residential allow work directly and indirectly related to agriculture, but farmers are seeking specifics.

They cite that public events are a boost to their businesses, but the board has not moved on proposals that would permit tours, tastings, festivals, and workshops.

No action was taken, and a working group could be formed to consider the matter further.
