Recent Storms Create Emergency Cleanup For Volunteers

The wake of last week's major storm drew attention to the damage south-facing beaches on Martha's Vineyard took.

Trash and debris were also washed ashore.

A recent of the Beach Be-Frienders saw the group gather at Squibnocket Beach for an emergency cleanup, where they picked up more than 300 pounds of fishing gear and plastic trash.

The group is sponsored by the Vineyard Conservation Society and usually does this cleanup once a month.

Other beaches will be targeted for the extra cleanup, including the First Day Lobsterville Sweep on New Year's Day in Lobsterville, from 1 to 3 pm.
