The Martha's Vineyard Commission has approved a major expansion project, regarding the Island's YMCA.
The board gave unanimous consent to a 39-thousand-square-foot addition, which will include an indoor gym, track, event, and conference space.
The multi-level renovation was part of the initial plans for the Y when it was constructed in 2009, but was left off due to financial issues.
Supporters say the YMCA will be able to handle more guests and mark it as a multipurpose facility.
