The police chief in Northampton is headed for the Cape and Islands.
Jody Kasper has served as a law enforcement officer in the city for 25 years and as chief for the past nine.
She has accepted the same post for Nantucket.
Officials for the island community said on Monday that Kasper had accepted the post, although contract negotiations are still pending.
Part of the deal is expected to be the town picking up the cost of housing.
Kasper will replace William Pittman, who is retiring after 19 years of service.
Chief Kasper has not said when she will be leaving Northampton.
