The Massachusetts Army National Guard is moving forward with plans to build a machine gun range on Joint Base Cape Cod.
Documents show the Guard has received two bids from companies interested in the project.
The state Environmental Management Commission must still approve the final plans, and a draft report from the Environmental Protection Agency warns the range could contaminate area drinking water.
If approved, the building of the range would cost an estimated nine-million dollars.
Federal funding of nine-point-seven million dollars has been approved for the project.
