Cape Bridges Get Attention Of White House

A senior Biden Administration advisor met with local leaders about the status of, and need to replace the Bourne and Sagamore Bridges.

Mitch Landrieu met with community leaders at Mass Maritime Academy, along with members of Massachusetts' Congressional delegation.

Landrieu is tasked with coordinating the implementation of the 2021 federal infrastructure law.

The 90-year-old bridges will cost an estimated four-point-five billion dollars to replace; Landrieu said a project that is well planned and has bipartisan backing has the best chance of willing federal funding.

The Army Corps of Engineers owns the spans and is seeking at least two-billion dollars in federal grants for the Sagamore Bridge alone, which the Healey Administration favors replacing first.
