Orleans rental owners must start registering their properties with the town in July as a result of a new bylaw passed this week at town meeting.
The Cape Cod Chronicle reports select board members supported the bylaw because they say the town needs the data to plan for long-term housing needs. Some voters described it as an invasion of their rights.
The town failed to pass a similar bylaw which would have required registration of short-term rentals after those owners complained they were being singled out.
The no-cost registration can be done through the town assessor's office.
