Falmouth Road Race Runner Cap Remains

A cap on the number of participants in this year's Falmouth road race is sticking.

Organizers had applied to the Falmouth Police Department to be able to register 15,000 runners.

But Falmouth Police Chief Edward Dunne says he cannot guarantee public safety if the cap goes above 10,000 people.

He says it’s not just the runners to account for, but the three to four people coming along with them, essentially bringing the town into a massive gridlock.

This, as the police department is at its lowest staffing levels in years.

The Select Board says it will work to try to increase the cap for next year’s race.
