NOAA’s Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary in Scituate needs help finding a lost research tag.
The Sanctuary’s Dr. Tammy Sylva says it almost looks like a plastic toy bug: it’s about six inches long, bright orange and has four little purple suction cups on it.
She says these little devices are critical in the sanctuary’s effort to tag and study whales.
The sanctuary is using them to tag and study SEI whales, something Sylva says is seldom done in these parts.
It’s expected to wash ashore in either Cape Cod Bay or along the South Shore.
