A republican proposal to suspend the state gas tax in Massachusetts was rejected by the House.
However, it's included as an amendment to the Senate's mid-year budget bill which is up for debate today.
Supporters say suspending the 24-cent a gallon tax would give consumers some relief from the recent sharp spike in prices.
Democrats call the proposal a "gimmick."
