The U.S. Coast Guard is removing over 200 tons of soil around the East Chop Lighthouse in Oak Bluffs as part of a lead remediation project.
That's according to a story from the Martha’s Vineyard Times.
Test results of a town-owned parcel adjacent to the lighthouse reportedly yielded a very high lead concentration.
The Coast Guard says lead in the soils around east chop is the result of previous applications of paint.
