A local police officer is now part of the U.S. Secret Service.
Barnstable Police Detective Steven Barrette was federally deputized last week by the U.S. Marshalls as a Task Force officer for the Secret Service.
Barrette joins detective Sergeant Kevin Connolly as members of the Secret Service New England Cyber Fraud Task Force.
The task force works to prevent, detect, and mitigate complex cyber-enabled financial crimes.
