Senator Ed Markey has held off a Democratic primary challenge from Congressman Joe Kennedy.
Markey received a call from Kennedy conceding the race at around 10 p.m. yesterday.
The closely watched race had been considered neck and neck until the last week, when Markey was shown with double digit leads in multiple polls.
Markey has never lost an election, while this was the first time a Kennedy has ever lost a race in Massachusetts.
Kennedy, holding back tears as he faced supporters last night said although his campaign is over, the fight for change in this country will continue.
