Church Says Lawmakers Who Voted For Abortion Bill Can't Receive Communion

(West Warwick, RI)--A Catholic church in Rhode Island is making it known that any legislator that voted in favor of an abortion law last year will not be allowed to receive communion there.The Providence Journal reports a flier listing the name of every state legislator who voted last year for the law that passed, codifying the rights established in the Roe v. Wade case, was given to parishioners last Sunday at Sacred Heart Church in West Warwick.In addition, those legislators cannot act as witnesses to marriage, godparents or lectors at weddings, funerals or other church functions.A spokesperson for the Catholic Diocese of Providence told the Journal daily pastoral and administrative decisions are made at the local parish level.
