In Sandwich officials there say that they may have to layoff ten people in the school department in order to make ends meet.
They are still somewhat early in the process--it has to go through the school committee and then selectmen before going to the town meeting in May.
But officials for now say they are more than 400 thousand dollars short.
And the school superintendent said this week that in order to maintain what they have now --- they will need a million dollar infusion of funding.
Officials say there are fewer kids in the system then there used to be and that affects funding.
