The Barnstable County Commissioners approved a routine observance month proclamation but not till after some fireworks.
After hearing a presentation for Shark and Seal Awareness week from proponents, Chairman Ronald Bergstrom objected to the proclamation.
He told commissioners that everyone has had different ways of dealing with the issue--some controversial ones and he feared that passage of the proclamation would lead to the "continuation of the debate in a very undisciplined way."
In the end Commissioners approved the matter on a 2-1 vote.
The Awareness Month is designed to promote education of all the issues surrounding the Cape Shark and Seal issue.
