Orleans Rejects Island Deal, Chatham Approves Accessory Dwellings

Orleans voters declined to spend money to preserve public access to Sipson Island, the privately-owned island in Pleasant Bay, at Monday's town meeting. The one-and-a-half-million dollars in Community Preservation Act funds would not have been for the purchase of the island, but instead would have gone towards a conservation restriction. In Chatham, town meeting rejected a six-and-a-half-million-dollar new council on aging facility and approved a bylaw change allowing accessory dwelling units.
