The Red Cross Cape, Islands, and Southeast MA division has revealed its 2018 Red Cross Heroes class to be honored at their 2019 Heroes Breakfast in April.
The Community Impact Hero will be posthumously presented to Yarmouth Police K9 Sgt. Sean Gannon, murdered in the line of duty last April while serving an arrest warrant in Marstons Mills.
Among the recipients of the Professional Heroes award is retired Yarmouth K9 Officer Peter McClelland who never left the side of Nero, Gannon’s K9 partner who was also shot and critically wounded on that April day. McClelland also trained the Belgian Malinois before presenting the K9 to Gannon.
Among those who will receive the Life Saving Heroes award are Kevin McCarthy of West Barnstable and Nicholas Callahan of South Dennis.The two Triple Crown Tree Company co-workers are credited with saving the life of a co-worker who got caught in a wood chipper while on a job in South Yarmouth.
Dana Passante of Yarmouth who, in August, came to the rescue of a 12-year old boy in distress in Lewis Bay, saving the youngster from drowning.
Jeff Turner and Doug Lindley of Nantucket will also be presented with Life Saving Heroes awards. The two co-piloted a plane through a snow storm to take a patient from the island to Boston for two organ transplants.
The 2019 Red Cross Heroes Breakfast will take place April 5th at the Resort and Conference Center in Hyannis.
