Edgartown Courthouse Asbestos Free but Cold

Work to remove asbestos from the Edgartown courthouse has been completed. However, the building remains without heat.

The Vineyard Gazette reports the problem started in late October because of a broken furnace in the boiler room. Repairs to the furnace were put on hold when asbestos was discovered in the crawl space.

County commissioners, last Wednesday in a special town meeting, approved the transfer of $25,000 to remove the asbestos and make repairs to the heating system. Dukes County manager Martina Thornton will seek additional funds when commissioners meet tonight. Thornton telling the Gazette that $25,000 will not cover the costs associated with the asbestos removal, chimney re-lining, and a new circulation pump.
