Shark Bite Victim: "I Punched Him in the Gills"

The Scarsdale, New York doctor, who was bitten by a shark earlier this month off Longnook Beach in Truro, talked about the ordeal publicly for the first time.

William Lytton, 61, says he was in about “8 to 10 feet of water” when he felt incredible pain in his left leg and quickly realized a shark was biting him. Lytton says he punched the shark in the gills as hard as he could. Although it resulted in him tearing tendons in his arm, it also more than likely saved his life. The neurologist says he remembered from nature shows that the gills were a sensitive and vulnerable part of the shark.

Lytton is undergoing physical therapy at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital in Boston for his injuries.
