A powerful thundertstorm caused extensive damage to the Lower and Outer Cape Thursday morning, knocking down trees, utility poles, and wires, flooding roadways, and keeping thousands of Cape residents in the dark and motionless on area highways.
The most extensive damage was to the Outer Cape between Truro and Orleans as flooding shutdown portions of Route 6 and Route 6A. Several thousand Eversource customers lost power when a utility wire came down across Route 6.
Eversource crews have restored about half of the customers as of 2 p.m.
