State Representative Tim Whelan of Brewster says nearly $3 million in state grants and bonding authorizations have been awarded to the 1st Barnstable District in the past week.
Three amendments filed by Whelan to this year’s Environmental Bond Bill were included in the final conference committee report, authorizing $1.7 million in funding for three priority projects in the 1st Barnstable District; one million dollars for the Dennis-Harwich-Yarmouth Clean Waters Community Partnership to fund initial design and engineering costs associated with wastewater mitigation in the three towns; $700,000 for two projects in the Town of Brewster - $300,000 toward extending the wing wall of the Freemans Pond Culvert at Paine’s Creek Beach and $400,000 towards the restoration and repair of the retaining wall at the historic Stony Brook Grist Mill and Herring Run.
In addition to those bond authorizations, the Town of Dennis, last week, was awarded $825,000 in a Community Development Block Grant while the Town of Dennis received $99,000 for safety upgrades to the Cape Cod Rail Trail crossing at South Gages Way. Another $120,500 was awarded to the Town for Dennis to begin a glass recycling program.
Finally, the Town of Brewster received a $40,000 grant to expand the trail network and improve access at Drummer boy Park.
